If the drive is SATA why a SATA/IDE to USB? As I understand it the SATA to IDE converters are nortoriously poor.ĭid you pull the drive from its case and are trying to access it directly? Best bet to verify whether drive is fried or not is to install it in your computer, assuming your box can handle SATA. Does this mean its not powerful enough to fire up the drive? IDE to USB adaptor from Maplin but it doesn't seem to work. This drive is a SATA drive actually made by Hitachi. I have this before with an older drive and got an USB adaptor and connected it to my computer and saved the data. I have a LaCie 1TB external hard drive that has just failed.
